Deb’s Wonderland Longest Table

This is Deb Swansson’s third year of hosting a Longest Table, continuing her efforts of raising funds to stop cancer from affecting the most treasured people in our lives.

Cancer is no stranger to Deb and her family. Unfortunately, her mother lost her battle to lung cancer seven weeks after being diagnosed in 2009; she also lost a close friend last year to ovarian cancer.

“By hosting a Longest Table each year is my way of helping in some small way to fight this disease,” Deb said.

Each year, Deb hosts a high tea afternoon at her local tearoom and this year will be her biggest one yet! With around 40 people attending, Deb’s organising an Alice in Wonderland theme, with table decoration suiting the theme, including rabbits, clocks and tea pots along with a beautiful China setting.

“I’ve organised the menu around high tea, which will include finger sandwiches, scones, queen of heart shortbread and more,” Deb said.

“Guests are asked to join in the theme and wear a hat or even fancy dress with prizes given out for the best hat and costume.

“On the day I will be holding a raffle with a variety of prizes up for grabs, including a pamper basket, chocolate basket, homewares and vouchers.”

With her loved ones in mind, Deb is determined to raise funds and stop the heartbreak of the harsh reality of cancer.

“I’m raising funds because a cancer free world would mean no one would have to go through the trauma of fighting this horrible disease and friends and family would not have to feel the loss it can bring.”
