Host Marianne’s Determination to Fork Cancer!

Shaving her hair off as part of her Longest Table fundraiser last year, three time forkstar Marianne is back and raring to #forkcancer! But this year she’s adamant her dinner won’t end with her shaving her head again!

What brings Marianne back for her third year of hosting a Longest Table? Like many others, cancer has devastated her family, sadly losing both her dad and mum to lung cancer.

“Two weeks after I registered for my first Longest Table in 2014 my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer, the same cancer that took my father 18 years ago when he was only 53-years-old,” Marianne said.

“That Longest Table will always hold a special place in my heart, as mum came along and was a true trooper.”

After taking a break in 2015, Marianne explains she came back with a vengeance last year by combining her Longest Table with a primary school reunion.

“We had adults and children galore running around in my front yard, the braziers were fired up, the drinks were flowing and there was food galore! I set the goal at $2,500 and if I reached the target I promised I would shave my hair off.

“I exceeded my target by raising $2,600, so off came those locks!”

This year Marianne is taking a more low key approach to her Longest Table, planning to order pizza from her friend’s pizzeria, Cece’s Pizza Cafe, Evandale and kick back with her guests around a warm fire which will once again be in her front yard.

To help her reach her fundraising target of $2,000, Marianne will be hosting a raffle on the night with goods kindly donated by local businesses!

With cancer rife in her family, Marianne’s hope is for a future free of the heartbreaking disease for not only her own family but for others.

“I would like my niece and my cousins’ children and their children to live in a world where cancer was completely curable.”
