Let’s Fight Prostate Cancer with John
John Hall is a fighter.
The 58-year-old father of three is living with prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of his body.
By hosting a Longest Table you’re ensuring research will continue in the hopes of putting an end to this devastating disease.
As a fit and healthy man, John never thought prostate cancer would affect him. A silent disease in most cases, symptoms of prostate cancer are not always present until the cancer has developed and spread. Sadly, this is what happened to John.
“I had no symptoms that I was aware of. I started developing pain in my back and then one night it just took over me,” John said.
“My PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level was something ridiculous like over 3000. The Oncologist said they had never seen a score like that before.”
Despite his diagnosis, John is doing all he can to save the lives of those around him. In fact, John’s sad diagnosis saved his brother Rod’s life.
“After my diagnosis my brother who is two years younger than me was tested and bang he had prostate cancer. Fortunately, it was confined to the prostate and thanks to current research it was fully treatable,” John said.
This story highlights a shocking statistic: 1 in 5 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
For John, he continues to hold onto hope while spreading the word about the need for early detection in men, and for more lifesaving research.
“I want to do all I can to protect my family from any more heartbreak caused by cancer. I want a future free of this disease for my son,” John said.
“For me, I’m just doing all I can. I have this faith that somebody, somewhere is getting closer and closer to finding a cure. I’m just holding out that it comes in my time.”
As a Longest Table host or guest you’re joining John in the fight against prostate cancer. Let’s help find a cure and #forkcancer once and for all.
