Purnong District Hall’s Birthday Fundraiser to Fork Cancer

Geoff Barber and the Purnong District Hall are back once again and will be celebrating their eighth year hosting a Longest Table!

To #ForkCancer, this year they’ve decided to theme their night around The Longest Table’s 10-year anniversary, by celebrating with a birthday party.

They will be hosting a three-course dinner on Saturday 2 July and are expecting another sell-out, with 80 guests in attendance.

“We will be treating guests with soup, a large mixed grill and of course, birthday cake for dessert,” Geoff said.

Geoff said every year he’s blown away by the support him and his group receives from their generous community.

“We’re very passionate about the cause and the ongoing support we get from the community and local businesses gives us plenty of motivation each year,” Geoff said.

“To raise funds, our guests will donate for their meal. We also have raffles, a silent and a live auction. We want to make it a fun night for everyone to enjoy!”

Geoff and his group have some golden advice for new hosts who have come on board this year for their first Longest Table.

“Everyone that attends your event is there to support a great cause and to have a good time, so make sure you enjoy the event yourself,” Geoff said.

“For getting donations, I always use the personal approach when asking local businesses and I rarely get a negative response. People respond well to the personal touch.”

The team’s fundraising target on the night is $5,000, with every dollar going to #ForkCancer.

“We’re so grateful each year for everyone who donates to our Longest Table. A future free of cancer would bring a lot of happiness to many families.”
