Sean’s Fight to Fork Cancer
Newlyweds Sean and Kelly Batson were enjoying their life as a married couple when six weeks after getting married, Sean was diagnosed with Stage 4 T Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in November 2017. His daughter Tilly was only 5 at the time.
At only 37-years-old, Sean faced one of the toughest battles of his life, but he wasn’t going to let cancer win.
“I fought as hard as I could with the odds stacked against me. T Cell Lymphomas are not very commonly seen or easily treated in Australia as A and B cell Lymphomas,” Sean said.
“I’ve been in remission since June 2018 but there’s a possibility of the cancer returning due to its aggressive nature. Not only am I hosting this table as a celebration, but I am holding this table for those that have not been as fortunate.”
Sadly, Sean lost his uncle who worked for SA Police to brain cancer and a good friend, an Afghanistan Veteran is currently battling brain cancer at 23-years-old.
“Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It’s a horrible, demeaning, abhorrent disease that I would love to see eradicated.”
Sean will be hosting an All American theme Longest Table, treating his guests to an American Low and Slow BBQ Menu, including pork ribs, chicken wings, cornbread and other traditional foods, and finishing off with a slow cooker chocolate lava cake with vanilla custard!
“At this stage, I’m hoping to raise funds through a raffle and some games,” Sean said.
“To commemorate the night, I will have a guest book where people can write something meaningful about why they attended, and we will also have a windproof area where guests can light a candle in memory of those affected by cancer.”
For Sean, a future free of cancer would mean everything to him.
“I wouldn’t have to keep looking over my shoulder every moment with worry, wondering when the cancer will return. I will have more time with my wife, kids and loved ones and wouldn’t have to worry about who will be next,” Sean said.
