I'm hosting a Longest Table to raise money for life-changing cancer research. Sadly, almost 452 Australians are diagnosed with cancer every day - that's 74 friends, parents, workmates and kids during the time it takes to host a meal.

Please donate to my Table - every dollar raised helps change these statistics by funding life-changing cancer research through The Hospital Research Foundation Group.

Taryn's Story - who is a dear friend of my daughter and Kerrie a friend of mine.

"A few years back, my mum Kerrie and I discovered we're both carriers of the BTCA1 gene - an inherited genetic typo that raises our lifetime breast cancer risk to 80%. 

Mum was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer at 42, and survived after a taxing few months of lumpectomy, chemo and radiation.

I got ahead of it, undergoing a preventative double mastectomy in 2024 to remove my breast tissue before my body betrayed me.  As fate would have it, after 20 years of clear mammograms, mum developed a new breast cancer in her other breast that same year, and also underwent a double mastectomy.

Despite the bad luck of carrying the gene, in many ways I'm lucky - I've been able to sidestep the cancer part. I have the gift of knowing, thanks to the tireless work of breast cancer researchers.  Because of them, knowledge is improving, treatments are improving and prevention is improving for people like me and my family. 

My biggest hope is that should my daughter also carry the gene, her options will be far better than mine".
